  • ということは flags the second half openly as something the speaker has worked out (返事へんじがない。ということは、もうたんだろう); つまり presents it as merely the first half in plainer words, even where it is in fact an inference — the same step, claimed as a paraphrase rather than as a deduction.

  • わけだ closes the sentence and marks the conclusion as one that finally makes sense of the facts (道理どうりさむいわけだ); つまり opens the sentence and merely restates, carrying none of that "so that's why" click.

  • というより rejects the wording just used and substitutes a better one (さむいというよりいたい); つまり keeps the previous wording as correct and adds a plainer version of it — so というより corrects and つまり translates.

  • つまり restates the point in sharper terms and claims both versions come to the same thing; というか withdraws the first version instead, so what follows corrects it rather than clarifying it — and つまり opens a sentence where というか closes a phrase.
